The territory formed by the 15 villages that make up the Espadán-Mijares Commonwealth is defined by the two geographical features from which it takes its name: the Mijares River to the north and the Sierra Espadán to the south. The Mijares River flows through steep mountains covered in pine and holm oak trees, forming the valley where some of these towns are located. The Sierra de Espadán, with its characteristic sandstone formations and cork oak forests, is the largest Natural Park in the province of Castellón, recognized for its great biodiversity and its picturesque towns.
The GR-333 was created in 2017, connecting ancient trails, livestock routes, and paths that were once the foundation for the development of these villages. Across its more than 105 km, this long-distance trail allows you to discover incredible landscapes and a rich heritage integrated into nature.
Divided into 15 stages—one for each municipality—it is possible to start the route from any of them. By following its characteristic white and red markings reinforced with wooden signage, you can explore this fascinating area.
